Honouring Tradition – Buffalo Robe Activity

September 12, 2025

On August 25, the pamināwasowin Child Care Centre had the distinct pleasure of welcoming Peter Brass, FNUniv’s Art Collections Manager, who facilitated a Buffalo Robe activity, an enriching staff engagement event grounded in First Nations tradition.

The children were invited to gently observe and participate in various aspects of the robe-making process, gaining insight into how each step reflects traditional skills, respect for animals, and teachings that have been cultivated over generations.

This experience provided our staff and children with a valuable opportunity to appreciate Indigenous knowledge and culture. It highlighted the significance of honouring traditions, learning from community Elders, and fostering the value of respect in our everyday interactions.
