Graduate Programs
All graduate programs are offered through the University of Regina Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.
First Nations University of Canada and the University of Regina offer the following graduate programs with a focus on Indigenous studies.
The UofR Faculty of Education, in partnership with the Indigenous Education program at FNUniv, provides a graduate pathway to a Master of Indigenous Education (MIED). Students can choose to complete the program through a Thesis, Project, or Course option.
Students will complete mandatory courses in Indigenous Education before choosing electives from the University of Regina’s Faculty of Education, including areas like curriculum and instruction, educational administration, educational psychology, adult education, and human resource development.
Admission average: 75%

FNUniv, in partnership with the UofR, provides the Master of Indigenous Language Education program.
This program aims to assist communities in reclaiming Indigenous Languages and to promote leadership in Indigenous Language Education. It will mainly be delivered online, with some in-person components.
Admission average: 75%

Indigenous Education

The Faculties of Social Work and Graduate Studies and Research offer graduate work leading to a Master of Indigenous Social Work (MISW) degree.
The graduate program aims to train students as clinical practitioners with expertise in Indigenous therapy methods and awareness of Indigenous community issues. It is dedicated to upholding Indigenous pedagogical principles and designing its educational experiences around traditional Indigenous knowledge and the collective wisdom of Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
Application deadline: March 15 of each alternating year (i.e. 2026, 2028, 2030, etc.)

The Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Nation-Building (INB) is a partnership program offered through FNUniv and the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (JSGS)
The Indigenous Nation-Building certificate is designed to meet the needs of Indigenous leaders and practicing public administrators, policy analysts, and non-profit administrators who wish to enhance their conceptual and technical skills in public administration or public policy as they relate to Indigenous peoples and communities.
