First Nations University of Canada and University of Regina to host  the 2025 National Building Reconciliation Forum

Regina, Saskatchewan — The First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) and the University of Regina (U of R) are honoured to be co-hosting the 9th National Building Reconciliation Forum on May 14 and 15. This year’s Forum focuses on the theme Responsibility as Reconciliation: Relational Accountability, marking one decade since the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action.

FNUniv and the U of R will welcome 250 attendees to their campuses, representing almost 60 post-secondary institutions from across Canada. Attendees include university Presidents, Provosts, Vice Presidents, and Indigenous leadership teams from across Canada – from British Columbia to Newfoundland, and as far north as the Yukon. This year’s event is expected to be one of the largest, and highest-attended in the 10-year history of the National Building Reconciliation Forum!

The Forum’s overarching purpose is to connect Indigenous and university communities to facilitate dialogue and drive meaningful systemic change, and support Indigenous engagement, decolonization, and reconciliation efforts. By addressing these critical focus areas, the Forum aims to reinforce the responsibility that higher education leaders must listen, collaborate, and build partnerships with Indigenous peoples.

Key sessions will focus on decolonizing education, advancing the TRC’s Calls to Action, and Indigenous engagement in post-secondary institutions.

Media are invited to attend:

Day 1 Morning Song and Conference Opening

Date: Wednesday, May 14
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: First Nations University of Canada Atrium, 1 First Nations Way

Day 2 Morning Song and Conference Opening

Date: Thursday, May 15
Time: 8:40 a.m.
Location: Education Auditorium, Room EA 106, 3919 University Drive South

Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann, President, FNUniv, Dr. Jeff Keshen, President and Vice-Chancellor, U of R, and Lori Campbell, Associate Vice-President (Indigenous Engagement), U of R will be available for interviews following the opening remarks on each morning.

With the support of Universities Canada, this forum will help post-secondary institutions reflect on their role in reconciliation, moving forward in ways that are accountable and informed by Indigenous perspectives. About the University of Regina

This year marks our 50th anniversary as an independent university (although our roots as Regina College date back more than a century!). As we celebrate our past, we work towards a future that is as limitless as the prairie horizon. We support the health and well-being of more than 17,200 students and provide them with hands-on learning opportunities to develop into career-ready graduates – more than 92,000 alumni enrich communities in Saskatchewan and around the globe. Our research enterprise includes 18 research centres and 9 Canada Research Chairs. Our campuses are on Treaties 4 and 6 – the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the homeland of the Michif/Métis nation. We seek to grow our relationships with Indigenous communities to build a more inclusive future.
Let’s go far, together.
