On July 10, 2025, the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) hosted its annual President’s Cup Fundraising Classic at Cooke Municipal Golf Course in Prince Albert. This year’s tournament brought together 112 golfers across 28 teams for an event that raised just over $69,000 (gross)—with all proceeds redirected to support wildfire recovery efforts and emergency bursaries for FNUniv students affected by this summer’s devastating fires.
Originally planned to raise funds for the development of a new Northern Campus, the tournament was quickly refocused to respond to the urgent needs of First Nations communities and students facing displacement, financial hardship, and loss due to wildfire evacuations.
“In times like these, we’re reminded that education and community go hand-in-hand,” said Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann, President of FNUniv. “Supporting our students and their families was the only path forward.”
In addition to a day of golf, the event featured contests, prize draws, and strong community participation. One of the most talked-about highlights was a mattress raffle prize donated by Leon’s Furniture, which created great energy and excitement among attendees.
The event’s success was made possible by the generous support of 9 volunteers and a wide range of corporate, community, and in-kind sponsors.
