FNUniv Spring Convocation Set for June 14 in Regina
Regina, Saskatchewan – The First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) is proud to welcome 174 new alumni at its annual Spring Graduation Celebration on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The celebration will take place at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
While the official convocation for graduates of both the University of Regina and FNUniv runs from June 11 to 13, FNUniv will honour its graduates in a ceremony rooted in First Nations traditions and cultural ways on June 14.
To begin the day, a pipe ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the tipi located at the Conexus Arts Centre. Members of the kêhtê-ayak Council will lead the ceremony, offering blessings to the graduates.
Doors open at 1:00 p.m., and the Grand Entrance of graduates, senior management, and dignitaries will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the ceremony and a reception after the retirement of the eagle staff and flags.
During the ceremony, the Interim Vice-President of Academic, Carrie LaVallie will present FNUniv’s signature embossed leather scrolls to graduates. This year, 165 undergraduate and nine graduate students will receive degrees, including the Master of Indigenous Education, Master of Indigenous Language Education, and the new Master’s Certificate in Indigenous Nation-Building.
Special recognition will be given to Dr. Susannah Walker, Program Coordinator of the Indigenous Social Work program, who recently earned her PhD in Public Policy from the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Regina.
