âcimostawin– Tell Me a Story

March 1, 2026

âcimostawin – Tell Me a Story is the second Indigenous Storytelling event held at FNUniv on February 28, 2026, in collaboration between Knowledge Keeper Dennis Omeasoo and First Nations University of Canada.

Hosted by Nelson Bird, the evening featured traditional stories, cultural teachings, and community connection.

Storytellers, Kelly Daniels from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, and Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway from Whitebear First Nation, shared their stories grounded in their experience and community traditions.

Joely reflected on her upbringing living in Regina, while Kelly shared a story about a young man who was gifted a ceremony. This story was passed down to Kelly by his relatives, Elders in Red Pheasant First Nations. and the old people. He expressed that we tell the stories for our children and for our ancestors.

This year included an Open Mic, inviting attendees to share traditional, cultural, or humorous stories. Five participants took part, and three winners were selected. The event was live streamed on the FNUniv Facebook page for those unable to attend.
