Regina, SK — On April 17, the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) Alumni and Powwow Volunteer Appreciation Supper brought together graduates, staff, elders, volunteers, and community members for a meaningful evening of reflection, connection, and celebration. Taking place on the eve of the annual powwow, the gathering served as a heartfelt kickoff to both the weekend’s festivities and FNUniv’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The evening honoured not only alumni, but also the dedicated powwow volunteers whose time and commitment help bring this important cultural gathering to life each year. Many of those recognized were also FNUniv alumni — or soon to be — reflected the deep and ongoing relationship between the university and its community.
Remarks were shared by leadership, staff, alumni, and community voices, alongside words from Elders, grounding the evening in culture, guidance, and respect. Each speaker spoke to the strength of the FNUniv community and the lasting impact of an education rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.
Moore than anything, the supper created space to honour everyone in attendance. It was a special moment to reconnect, to see many familiar faces, and to celebrate the relationships that continue to grow beyond the classroom.
Together with the powwow, the Alumini and Powwow Volunteer Appreciation Supper marked the beginning of a milestone year — one that celebrates 50 years of learning, growth, and community, while looking ahead to the generations still to come.
