Experiential Learning Growing at First Nations University of Canada

First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) students will see increased opportunities to participate in work-integrated learning (WIL) beginning in Fall 2026. WIL connects classroom learning with real-world experience by bringing together students, faculty, and industry partners to collaborate on projects that address current challenges and opportunities.

A recent example took place in Winter 2026 when students in Dr. Arzu Sardarli’s Statistics 100 course partnered with Okane Consultants, a mine remediation company known for its work with Indigenous communities. Using real financial data provided by Okane, students applied statistical methods to analyze business challenges and gain practical experience working with industry data.

The growth of WIL opportunities at FNUniv is supported in part through a partnership with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER), and with the support from the Government of Canada. FNUniv is one of 28 organizations across Canada selected to help expand work-integrated learning opportunities and strengthen pathways between post-secondary education and the workforce.

As FNUniv continues to expand experiential learning opportunities across its programs, students will gain valuable hands-on experience, build professional networks, and develop skills that prepare them for meaningful careers and leadership roles in their communities and beyond.
