FNUniv Practicum Students Bring Indigenous Career Symposium to Campus

November 5, 2026

Two Human Justice students are gaining hands-on experience while creating opportunities for students to connect with Indigenous professionals.

First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) is pleased to introduce Alexander (Alex) Jones and Naimal Ajmal, two fourth-year Human Justice students from the University of Regina completing their fall practicum placements with FNUniv’s Student Success Services.

Through their placements, Alex and Naimal are gaining valuable experience in a community-focused environment, supporting student initiatives, and helping organize an upcoming Indigenous Career Symposium on November 25, 2026, at the Regina Campus.

Gaining Experience and Building Connections

For Alex, the placement offers an opportunity to experience FNUniv’s campus community for the first time. Although he has not previously attended classes at FNUniv, he has appreciated the welcoming environment.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the FNUniv community and look forward to connecting with students, staff, and faculty throughout my placement,” said Alex. “So far, everyone has been incredibly kind, welcoming, and friendly.”

Now in the final year of his Human Justice degree, Alex hopes to continue contributing to Student Success Services while gaining practical experience that will support his future career.

Naimal began her practicum on September 1 and will complete her placement on December 4, 2026. During her time at FNUniv, she has been involved in planning and organizing events, collaborating with others, and exploring opportunities to put her classroom learning into practice.

“One of the things I’ve enjoyed most has been being able to work on projects where I can be creative and contribute ideas,” said Naimal.

She describes the placement as a valuable opportunity to meet new people, work in a community setting, and develop skills she can carry forward after graduation.

Connecting Students with Indigenous Professionals

One of the initiatives Alex and Naimal are working on is the Indigenous Career Symposium, an event designed to connect students with Indigenous professionals from a variety of career fields.

The symposium will feature Indigenous lawyers, police officers, and social workers who will share their professional journeys, experiences, and perspectives.

Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, explore different career pathways, and gain insights from professionals working in their respective fields.

The event also aims to create a welcoming space for students to build connections, exchange ideas, and learn from Indigenous professionals within the community.
