Regina, SK — The First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) was honoured to welcome the representatives from the University of Zululand (UniZulu) in South Africa for a week of engagement, learning, and collaboration as part of the ongoing partnership between the two institutions.
The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen existing relationship and continue conversations around shared priorities in Indigenous education, research, and community engagement. Throughout the week, UniZulu representatives participated in a variety of activities designed to foster knowledge sharing and deepen understanding of FNUniv’s unique approach to education.
The visit began with a Welcome Pipe Ceremony, offering an opportunity to gather in a culturally meaningful way and establish the spirit of respect and relationship-building that guided the week’s discussions.
Guests met with FNUniv leadership, faculty, staff, and students to learn more about the university’s academic programming, Indigenous policies and procedures, research initiatives, and student opportunities and supports. These conversations highlighted the important role Indigenous knowledge and perspectives play in shaping FNUniv’s approach to post-secondary education.
A highlight of the visit was a trip to nēwoskan, FNUniv’s land-based education site, where visitors learned more about the university’s commitment to experiential learning and connection education to the land. The delegation also toured the Regina campus and met with members of the Student Association, proving additional opportunities for dialogue and relationship-building.
The visit reflects the continued commitment of both institutions to fostering meaningful international partnerships that support learning, research, and the sharing of Indigenous knowledge across communities and countries.
FNUniv extends its gratitude to the University of Zululand representatives for their visit and looks forward to continuing the relationship, as well as exploring future opportunities for collaboration.
