Future Library Technicians Start Cooperative Training at FNUniv Libraries

April 29, 2026

For the past three years, the FNUniv Libraries have proudly provided Cooperative Training opportunities for students from Saskatchewan Polytechnic, specifically those enrolled in the Library and Information Technology program. This year, we are excited to welcome two dedicated students who will gain practical experience at the Regina and Northern Campus locations.

Head Librarian Paula Daigle is a strong advocate for these cooperative training initiatives, emphasizing their importance in a profession where the library community in Saskatchewan is relatively small. She notes the under-representation of Indigenous individuals in the library field and believes these training opportunities can play a crucial role in bridging that gap. By involving these students, the program not only familiarizes them with a wealth of Indigenous resources but also facilitates meaningful connections with Indigenous Elders, enriching their educational experience and fostering valuable relationships for their future careers in various libraries.

Max Wilson, Regina Campus, and Brianna Bruce, Northern Campus, are set to participate in the cooperative training program for three weeks, from May 4 to May 22, 2026. This immersive experience will help them develop essential skills and knowledge vital for their future roles in the library sector. After completing the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Library and Information Technology Program, they will become certified Library Technicians.
