Renowned Indigenous sculptor Dempsey Bob visited the Regina Campus for a special event hosted by the Indigenous Fine Arts Department. During his talk, Bob shared stories from his artistic journey, offering insight into the cultural foundations that shape his work. He highlighted the influence of celebrated Indigenous artists such as Freda Diesing and his long-time friend and former FNUniv Assistant Professor, the late Bob Boyer, acknowledging their roles in inspiring and guiding his development as an artist.
Bob captivated attendees with images of his sculptures and demonstrations of how he integrates Tahltan and Tlingit culture into various mediums. His reflections on tradition, mentorship, and creativity made the visit especially meaningful. He also shared Tahltan and Tlingit singing and drumming from his homelands in British Columbia, further grounding his presentation in the living strength of his culture.
In a powerful moment, Dempsey Bob gifted the University a starquilt originally given to him by the late Bob Boyer—explaining that he felt it was, “It was time to come home.” The gift served as a heartfelt reminder of the lasting ties between artists, communities, and the stories carried forward through their work.
