In collaboration with the Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre (SICC), the Indigenous Language Revitalization Project has been successfully completed. This initiative, spearheaded by the Indigenous Business & Public Administration (IBPA) faculty at FNUniv, involved the coordination and facilitation of strategic and operational planning workshops for Saskatchewan Tribal Councils and independent First Nations.
Throughout the project, approximately 16 workshops were conducted with various communities across Saskatchewan, aimed at helping them identify their language revitalization priorities, establish long-term goals, outline operational actions, assess resource needs, determine implementation steps, and explore future funding opportunities.
As a result of these workshops, the project team developed 16 strategic and operational plans for participating communities, providing valuable tools to support ongoing language revitalization efforts and enhance funding readiness. Notably, one participating Tribal Council successfully secured funding to advance their language revitalization initiatives.
The final workshop took place on March 12-13, 2026, in Saskatoon, in partnership with the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC), and was led by facilitators Neal Kewistep and Tenille Thomson. This concluding session marked the culmination of a series of workshops dedicated to enhancing Indigenous language planning and readiness for funding across Saskatchewan.
The initiative has provided significant support to Nations and Tribal Councils as they plan for the preservation and future of their languages. The FNUniv Indigenous Business and Public Administration faculty and support team were honoured to be part of this meaningful work.
