Words of advice: Please, don’t ever give up. Take deep breaths, reach out for help, ask for guidance and never ever think you are alone. You’re not.
One word to describe FNUniv: Significant.
Tamara’s journey to First Nations University of Canada began with the encouragement of her mother, Leah Missens. Looking back, she describes her experience as one that transformed her holistically, academically, and culturally, giving her the confidence to face challenges, reconnect with herself, and persevere through every stage of her studies.
Throughout her time at FNUniv, Tamara found support in the relationships she built with instructors, classmates, and staff. She credits the university with helping her regain self-confidence, reconnect with dancing, and learn how to walk in both worlds while remaining true to herself. One of the most impactful moments of her education came during her final INSW practicum, where she discovered not only the kind of social worker she wanted to be, but also the qualities she hoped to embody throughout her career.
Today, Tamara serves as an Assessor Coordinator and Provincial Navigator in Mental Health and Addictions with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. She continues to draw on the resilience, compassion, and cultural foundation she developed during her time at FNUniv.

Words of advice: You can do this!
One word to describe FNUniv: Amazing.
Raeanne chose First Nations University of Canada after following in the footsteps of her mother, who completed the same program in 1993. Inspired by her family’s connection to FNUniv, she found a learning environment that strengthened both her personal and cultural growth while preparing her for a career dedicated to supporting others.
Some of Raeanne’s most meaningful memories came from her INSW classes, Culture Camp, and the relationships she built with professors who encouraged and supported her throughout her studies. These experiences helped deepen her connection to culture and reinforced the values she carries into her work today.
Now serving as a Child and Youth Mental Health Therapist in her community, Raeanne continues to give back by supporting young people with the same care, guidance, and compassion she experienced during her time at FNUniv.
