FNUniv and Duke University Sign MOU to Advance Indigenous Education and Research

March 11, 2026

The First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) and Duke University, through its Kenan Institute for Ethics, signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 11, 2026, aimed at strengthening collaboration in education, research, and Indigenous knowledge exchange.

The agreement establishes a framework for future cooperative initiatives between the two institutions, including collaborative research opportunities, faculty and graduate student exchanges, shared consultancies, staff development initiatives, and potential transfer credit agreements.

The MOU reflects a shared commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships that support academic excellence, cross-cultural learning, and ethical collaboration grounded in mutual respect and knowledge sharing.

“This partnership represents an exciting opportunity to strengthen international collaboration while advancing Indigenous-led education and research initiatives,” said Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann, President of FNUniv.

Under the agreement, both institutions will work together to explore and develop specific projects and programs over the next three years, subject to separate agreements and available funding.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by FNUniv President Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann, Vice-President Academic Dr. Ramona Neckoway, and Duke University Executive Vice Provost Mohamed Noor.

The partnership reinforces FNUniv’s ongoing commitment to building global relationships that support Indigenous scholarship, innovation, and community impact.
