The Honourable Marc Miller, P.C., M.P., Visits the First Nations University of Canada

May 19, 2026

On May 19, 2026, The Honourable Marc Miller, P.C., M.P., Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, visited the First Nations University of Canada Regina Campus.

During his visit, Minister Miller toured the campus and met with faculty, staff, and students, as well as engaging with leadership, including FSIN 3rd Vice Chief Fabian Head. He participated in a meaningful discussion with Natalie Langan in the INCA Media Lab, focusing on the revitalization of Indigenous languages. They highlighted the importance of preserving and strengthening Indigenous languages for future generations and discussed the vital role language plays in identity, culture, and community well-being.

In the fall of 2025, academic teams led by Dr. Arzu Sardarli (Indigenous Knowledge and Science) and Shannon Avison (Indigenous Journalism and Communication Arts) received Canadian Heritage Grants for language revitalization initiatives. During the Minister’s visit, Dr. Sardarli, Reanna Daniels, and Ting Zhou gave a short presentation on the “Cree Dictionary of Mathematical Terms” and website demonstration highlighting Indigenous language revitalization and mathematics education initiatives.

We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the work being done at FNUniv and to emphasize the significance of supporting Indigenous education, languages, and reconciliation initiatives across the country.
