On September 17, 2026, the Saskatoon Campus Student Association Spokesperson Headperson Kate Young was selected as a 2026 Fellow for the new Mastercard Foundation Fellowship Program—an initiative that will support the leadership journeys of more than 1,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth over the next decade through long-term, culturally grounded support.
Through the Fellowship, Indigenous young people will have the opportunity to chart their own leadership paths, strengthen Indigenous representation in decision-making spaces, and help shape the future of their Nations, communities, and Canada.
Kate is a nēhiyaw leader, advocate, and entrepreneur from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band whose work is centred on advancing Indigenous leadership, strengthening organizations, and creating opportunities for communities to thrive. Guided by the nēhiyawak principle wāhkōhtowin, Kate approaches leadership with responsibility, accountability, and integrity.
