Visual Brand Standards

The First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) brand reflects who we are as an Indigenous institution—grounded in culture, community, and knowledge. Our visual identity connects our history, teachings, and future, and should always be used with respect, consistency, and pride.

Our Identity

FNUniv is a First Nations-owned post-secondary institution committed to bridging ceremony, knowledge keepers, languages, and traditions with high-quality education. Our brand reflects this mission and supports the pride and success of our students, communities, and partners.

Our Symbol

The FNUniv logo represents both our history and our future. It is a central element of our identity and must always be used appropriately.

  • The circle represents the lifelong journey of learning
  • The four colours represent the North, South, East, and West
  • The Chief’s head reflects FNUniv’s connection to the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations
  • The five feathers represent the Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Dene, and Nakoda (Assiniboine) Nations

Logo Usage

FNUniv has two official logo formats:

Both formats are available in EPS, SVG, JPG, and PNG.

When using the logo:

  • Always maintain clear space around it (minimum spacing equals half the feather height)
  • Do not distort, stretch, or alter the logo
  • Use discretion when placing on backgrounds or other materials

Colour Palette

The FNUniv colour palette is inspired by the natural world and the medicine wheel. It should be used consistently across all materials.

Primary Colours

  • Blue (#0086D4)
  • Yellow (#FFCF00)
  • Red (#F6324A)
  • Black (#000000)
  • White (#FFFFFF)

Secondary Colours

Used for highlights and supporting elements:

  • Orange (#FF6720)
  • Green (#4E7851)

Use additional colours and tints with discretion to maintain brand integrity.

Typography

FNUniv typography is clean, modern, and accessible.

  • Primary font: Myriad
  • Secondary font (headlines and titles): Today
  • Accent styles: Handwritten or script fonts may be used to add a human, personal feel

Typography should be used thoughtfully to balance clarity and expression.

Naming & Hashtags

When the logo is not used, FNUniv may be represented as:

  • FNU (always uppercase)
  • FNUniv (with “FNU” uppercase and “niv” lowercase)

Approved formats include:

  • #FNUniv
  • @FNUniv

Graphic Elements

The FNUniv visual style builds from our identity and cultural symbolism.

  • Use medicine wheel colours as horizontal or angled bars
  • Colour bars can act as dividers or directional elements
  • Circular design elements may be used to reflect the logo and concept of wholeness
  • Designs should feel forward-moving, contemporary, and grounded in culture

Photography Style

Photography should feel authentic, natural, and reflective of FNUniv life.

Preferred style includes:

  • Natural lighting
  • Students and faculty in real campus settings
  • Proud, confident expressions
  • Classroom, cultural, and everyday student life moments
  • Close, human-focused compositions

Images should reflect real FNUniv experiences and a strong sense of community.

Bringing It All Together

When all elements—logo, colour, typography, imagery, and layout—are used consistently, they create a cohesive and recognizable FNUniv brand that reflects our identity, values, and vision for the future.
