Marketing, Communications & Engagement
Marketing, Communications & Engagement supports how First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) shares its stories, engages communities, and advances its role as Canada’s national Indigenous university. Guided by First Nations values and the teachings of our Elders, our work is grounded in respect, collaboration, and Treaty relationships.
The portfolio provides strategic leadership across communications, marketing, advertising, event services, and student recruitment, ensuring FNUniv’s messaging is consistent, culturally grounded, and aligned with institutional priorities—strengthening the University’s reputation, visibility, and engagement locally, nationally, and internationally.
What We Do
Marketing, Communications & Engagement supports the University through:

- External Communications & Media – leads public relations, media relations, issues management, and institutional storytelling
- Marketing & Advertising – stewards the FNUniv brand and develops integrated marketing campaigns, advertising, and promotional materials
- Student Recruitment – leads recruitment outreach and engagement strategies that support enrolment growth
- Event Services & Bookings – oversees the planning, coordination, and delivery of university events and manages external institutional space bookings
- Community & Alumni Engagement – strengthens relationships with Indigenous communities, partners, and alumni through meaningful engagement and collaboration
- Signature Institutional Events – plans and delivers major university-wide events, including but not limited to the Annual Smudge Walk, Late Tony Cote Powwow, Remembrance Day Services, Elders Christmas Dinner, Annual Spring Celebration Powwow, and the President’s Cup Fundraising Golf Tournament
Through this work, Marketing, Communications & Engagement ensures FNUniv’s voice is clear, consistent, and reflective of Indigenous knowledge systems, while supporting student recruitment, community connection, and long-term institutional growth.
